Staff and shifts
Staff and PINs
Add the people who work the till, give each a PIN, and choose whether the till asks for one.
Everyone who works the till gets their own name and a PIN of 4 to 6 digits. Each sale then carries the name of whoever signed in. You set this up in the builder under Staff, and changes reach the till at once, without publishing.
Add someone
- Open your till in the builder and choose Staff.
- Under Staff and PINs, press Add someone.
- Type their Name, pick a Role (Cashier, Manager or Owner) and a PIN.
- Press Add. Tell them their PIN in person.
PINs are stored scrambled, so nobody can read one back, not even you. If someone forgets theirs, press Change PIN next to their name and give them a new one.
Until you add anyone, a till in demo mode accepts the demo PINs 1234 (cashier), 0000 (manager) and 9999 (owner). They stop working as soon as you add your own people. On a live till, add an owner first: with nobody on the list, nobody can sign in.
When someone leaves
- Sign out stops them signing in. Let back in undoes it.
- Remove takes them off the till for good.
Signing in on the till
Under Signing in on the till you choose:
- Ask for a PIN before selling: the till opens on the PIN screen. Switch it off and the till opens straight on the sale screen. Anything only a manager may do still asks for a manager's PIN.
- Lock the till when nobody touches it: never, or after a set time. It never locks in the middle of a payment, and the ticket stays for whoever signs in next.
These two settings are part of the till's design, so Save and Publish afterwards.
On the till, anyone can lock it by tapping their name on the screen rail. A person who has signed in on a device before can sign in there again even while the internet is down.
The people who may change the till in the builder are a separate list, at the bottom of the same page. See Give your team access.
