Shifts, X and Z reports

Open a shift, follow the day on the live X report, and close it to lock a Z report you can print.

A shift is one working day on the till, from opening to closing. While it is open the Shift screen shows a live X report. Closing it locks a Z report: the day's sales, payments, VAT and cash, numbered and never changed afterwards.

Open a shift

  1. Go to Shift.
  2. Check Opening float in the drawer, the cash you start with.
  3. Press Open shift.

Many tills open the shift by themselves on the first sale of the day (the rule Open the shift by itself), with a float of 0. If yours does not, the till says Open a shift first when you try to take a payment.

All devices on the same till share one shift.

During the day

The Shift screen shows sales, gross, VAT, tips, each way to pay and Expected cash. This is the X report: it updates with every sale and changes nothing.

Close the shift

  1. Count the cash and type it in Counted cash in the drawer. If you leave it empty, the shift closes with the expected amount and no variance, unless your till asks for a count.
  2. Press Close shift (Z-report).
  3. If you are a cashier, the till may ask for a Manager PIN. The manager types it and presses Unlock and close.

Closing needs the internet, and every sale on the device must have reached the server first. If something is still waiting, connect and try again.

Find and print a Z report

Closed shifts are listed under Z-reports on the Shift screen and on Reports (the last five). Press Print to open the Z report. From there use Print page, or choose a Receipt printer and press Print ticket. Reports also has a CSV link for each Z report.

The Z report shows the receipt numbers it covers, voided sales, discounts, net sales, payments by type, VAT per rate, and the cash drawer: opening float, cash in and out, expected, counted and the variance (over or short).
