Staff and shifts

Roles and permissions

What a cashier, a manager and an owner may do on the till, and how to change it with rules.

Every person on the till has one of three roles. A Cashier sells, holds tabs and takes payments. A Manager also refunds, voids and closes the shift. The Owner can do everything, whatever the rules say. You decide which money actions need a manager.

The actions you control

The rule Who may do what decides, per role:

  • Void a sale: cancel a sale, or remove a line from the ticket.
  • Refund
  • Give a discount
  • Type a price on the numpad
  • Close the shift

When there is no rule for an action, a manager may do it and a cashier may not. A new till usually starts with these rules: a cashier may remove lines but not void a paid sale, may not refund, and may give discounts up to 50 kr on their own. Your till may differ, so check Rules.

Change a rule

  1. In the builder, open Design and then Rules.
  2. Find Who may do what, or add it with Add rule.
  3. Choose the Role, the Action and whether it is Allowed.
  4. For refunds and discounts you can set Without a manager PIN up to (kr): above that amount a manager is needed.
  5. For voids, Also after the sale is paid decides whether a cashier may void a finished sale.
  6. Save and Publish.

The switch Cashiers can refund under Features, in Shop extras, sets the same refund rule for you.

On the till

For a refund, a void or closing the shift, the till asks for a Manager PIN right there. The manager types it, the action goes through, and the cashier stays signed in.

For a discount, removing a line or typing a price, the till says that a manager is needed. Lock the till, let the manager sign in to do it, and the ticket is still there.
