Cash and the cash drawer
Taking cash, giving change, rounding, the opening float, counting up, and how the drawer opens.
Cash is booked on the till like any other payment and counted on the Z report. The till tells the cashier how much change to give, and keeps track of what should be in the drawer.
Take a cash payment
- Press Cash on the payment screen.
- Tap the amount the customer hands over: the exact amount, or one of the note buttons. Other amount lets you type it.
- The till shows the Change to give back.
Cash totals are rounded to the nearest whole krona (or the step your till uses), and the till shows Rounded from with the exact total.
Cash still works when the internet is down. Those sales wait on the device and are sent when the connection is back. See When the till is offline.
Turn cash off on one device
On a device that should never take cash, go to Settings and switch Cash on this till to Not accepted. Only that device changes.
The cash drawer
The drawer opens from the FinPrinter that prints your receipts.
- Plug the drawer's cable into the drawer port on the back of the FinPrinter.
- On the till, go to Settings, Printers and choose the FinPrinter for Receipt.
- In the builder, open Features and under Shop extras switch on Cash drawer. Publish.
Under the switch, choose when it opens by itself: after Cash sales only, or after Every payment if you put the card slip in the drawer too. The Drawer button on the sale screen opens it at any time, for example to give change for a note.
If it does not open, check that the cable sits in the drawer port and not in the network port, and that the FinPrinter is online. A drawer on a terminal with its own printer, or on a till that is offline, opens with its key.
Float, counting and variance
- When you open a shift, type the Opening float in the drawer.
- During the day, Expected cash on the Shift screen is the float plus cash sales minus cash refunds.
- When you close, count the drawer and type it in Counted cash in the drawer. The Z report shows the difference as Variance (over) or Variance (short).
Cash back to a customer
A refund or a void of a cash sale tells the cashier to hand the cash back from the drawer. It comes off the expected cash. Cash refunds work offline too. See Refunds and voids.
