Tips
How tips are asked for on the card terminal, how to switch them on or off, and where tips show up afterwards.
Tips are asked on the card terminal, after the customer taps, never by the till or the cashier. The customer picks a level or rounds up on the terminal's screen, and the tip is added to the card payment.
Switch tips on (owner)
- In the builder, open Features, How guests pay, and switch on Tips.
- For the details, open Rules and the Tips rule. Choose the Style (Levels to choose from or Round up the amount), the Levels, % of the order (up to 3), for example 5, 10 and 15, whether they are Shown as Percentages or Amounts, and Ask for these payment methods, usually Card.
- Save and publish. Publishing sends the tip settings to your terminal.
If the terminal never asks, open Go live and look at Tips on the terminal under Matches your till.
On the till
When tips are on, the switch Tip on the terminal sits under the total, with the levels beside it. It is on for every sale.
- To skip the question for one sale (a colleague, a big group order), turn the switch off before you press Pay on terminal. It says not for this sale.
- The switch turns itself back on for the next sale.
A manager or owner can stop tips on one device: Settings, Tips on the terminal, switched to Never asked. That only changes this device.
Where tips show up
- On the receipt, as its own line Tip.
- On the Shift screen and in the Z-report, under Tips. See Shifts and Z-reports.
Good to know
- Cash payments never ask for a tip, and the till has no button to add a cash tip.
- The cashier never types a tip on the till. If a customer wants to tip, they choose it on the terminal.
- With the switch off for a sale, the terminal skips the tip question. If it still asks, ask getpos support to switch on per-sale tips for your account.
