Demo payments and going live

How to tell whether the till takes demo or real payments, what demo payments do, and what changes when the shop goes live.

A new till starts with demo payments. Everything works as in real life, but no money moves. It is the right place to try the till and train staff.

How to tell

  • A badge at the top says Demo payments. If it adds no terminal linked, card payments are simulated: there is no terminal yet. A manager can press register one to link one.
  • The terminal badge in the header says Demo terminal or Terminal (simulated).
  • Settings, This till, shows Mode: Demo or Live. When it says Demo but a terminal is linked, the terminal takes test payments: nothing is charged.
  • A receipt from a simulated sale says SIMULATED · NO MONEY MOVED.

What a simulated payment does

Press Pay on terminal as usual. The till shows Waiting for terminal and Customer paying, marked "simulated", and the payment completes by itself after a few seconds. Cash, splits, refunds, voids, receipts and reports all work, so you can practise the whole day, including closing the shift.

To practise a declined card, ring up a total that ends in ,99, such as 10,99 kr: the simulated card says no.

With no staff added yet, these demo PINs work: 1234 (cashier), 0000 (manager) and 9999 (owner). Once the owner adds the team in the builder under Staff, the demo PINs stop working.

Going live (owner)

In the builder, open Go live. It shows Test payments until the shop takes real ones.

  1. Press Apply for real payments. We fill in the application; you check it, add a bank account and sign with BankID.
  2. When the account is ready, press Switch to real payments, then Yes, take real payments. Only the till's owners can do this.
  3. Register your terminal again afterwards, with the code on its screen. See Connect a card terminal.

Test payments keep working until you switch. Card payments are handled by Surfboard Payments, and the money is paid out to your own account. See Publish and go live.

After the switch, check the top of the till: the Demo payments badge is gone, and Settings shows Mode: Live. Take one small real payment and refund it to be sure.
