Kitchen tickets (bongs)
How orders reach the kitchen or the bar as a bong, on paper or on the till's screen, and how to send, resend and add to an order.
A bong tells the kitchen or the bar what to make: the items, how many, choices and notes, with no prices. It can print on a printer at the station, or show on the till's screen when there is no printer.
Set it up (owner)
In the builder, open Features, Kitchen and bar.
- Under Where does an order go?, choose Nothing goes to a kitchen, Show the bong on the till or Print it.
- Under Stations, add the places that make things, such as KITCHEN and BAR. Tap the menu categories each one makes. A station with no categories gets everything.
- Choose when the bong goes out: Send when a ticket is parked (table service) and Send when it is paid (counter service).
- Optional: Large text on the bong, and Copies of each bong.
- Under How you serve, Send courses separately makes a second bong carry only what was added since the first.
Each till picks its printer per station under Settings, Printers. See Printers.
On the till
The bong goes out by itself at the moments the owner chose: when the ticket is held on a table or tab, or when the sale is paid. You do not need to do anything.
If your till has a Kitchen button on the ticket, it sends the bong when you press it, and the till confirms with Bong sent to the kitchen. The number on the button is how many items have not gone to the kitchen yet. When nothing is new, the button shows the last bong again.
With courses sent separately, a bong for items added later is marked ADDED, so the kitchen does not make the first course twice.
When there is no printer, or it does not answer
The bong opens on the till's screen, exactly as it would print. Read it out or show it to the kitchen, then press Done. The message above it says why, for example that no printer is chosen for that station yet. See Printer problems.
What the bong shows
The station's name on top, the order number if the shop uses them, Eat in or Take away if asked, the table or tab name (or Counter), the time, the cashier, then the items with their choices and notes.
